February 18, 2015
Dear Principal,
This spring, the 11th Ward will be sponsoring the 14th annual “Boy & Girl of the Year”. This event was very well received last year by all the schools that participate in our sports & educational program. Again, this is not a sporting event, but it gives an opportunity for all to be involved. In the past, the goal of this program was to honor outstanding 7th & 8th grade students.
Enclosed you will find an application for four participants, one boy and one girl from both the 7th & 8th Grades. (total 4 students) The applications must be completed and turned into this office no later than Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Each application must be accompanied by a copy of their latest report card and two letters of recommendation. The letters of recommendation may come from a teacher, principal, pastor, etc. Please read all directions.
After all the applications are processed, each applicant will be interviewed by one to three judges. The interview date for each student will be on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Candidates will be informed of the time and location of the interview. The final selection will consist of one 7th & 8th grade boy and one 7th & 8th Grade girl from all participating schools. The award ceremony for all candidates will be on Thursday, April 20, 2015 at McGuane Park, located at 2901 South Poplar.
We will have more information about the award ceremony to follow at a later date. As always, we thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, please contact the Daley/Balcer Service Office at 773/254-6677.
Sincerely,
